Farewell
by Jean Kimble

FAREWELL – SOLD! This was a large painting I had made showing a spectacular winter sunset over the creek where I used to live. It was one of the most beautiful sunsets I had ever seen there. Canada geese were streaming from the fields, where they had been feeding all day, out to the open water of the bay for the night. I was about to move to the mountains very soon, and actually painted it for myself, planning to hang it over my couch in my new living room as a salute to my past heritage. It was truly a farewell to my home place and everything I had ever known. I took it to the very popular Rappahannock River Waterfowl Show just before I left. Very early in the morning of the first day of the show, a couple came in and fell in love with it; it was gone well before noon. Although I was happy to have sold it, I really did not expect to, and I mourned its loss over my own couch. It's hard when I paint something from the heart, and the umbilical cord is not yet broken... Size and price were similar to "The Tempest".
